12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Pope Francis has decreed that the name of Saint Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is to be added to Eucharistic Prayers II, III and IV. During the Second Vatican Council Blessed John XXIII declared that the name of Saint Joseph would be added to the Eucharistic Prayer (Roman Canon) but at that time only what we call Eucharistic Prayer I was used. Now the Holy Father has continued the work begun and declared that from now on the name of Saint Joseph will be prayed after the mention of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Holy Body and Blood of Christ Sunday

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ

In today’s Gospel text Jesus tell his disciples: “Give them something to eat yourselves”.

This speaks of the Truth that Jesus works through his disciples (then and now) to bring about the Kingdom. He supports us with that greatest of Gifts, the Eucharist, His own Body and Blood, to help us achieve our mission in life.

The Most Holy Trinity

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ

With today’s great Feast of the Most Holy Trinity, we celebrate the heart of Christian understanding of the nature of God.

Christians understand the Divine to be a community of love: there is the mutual love of Father and Son, and the power of that love which is the Holy Spirit. Of course, all analogies limp; and all theological theories strive to capture the ineffable mystery of the being of God.

The Holy Spirit works through us

‘Today's reading gives us a clue as to what the experience of the first Pentecost meant. Jesus comes to his closest followers who had deserted him to bring them a peace which is not just a calming of hearts and conscience, but the surety of heart which will enable and embolden them to go out and preach the gospel to the ends of the earth.
