At St Patrick’s Cathedral, we are a vibrant, welcoming community of faith in the heart of Parramatta. Together, we seek to live out the Gospel through prayer, service, and connection with one another.
As the seat of the Bishop and centre of diocesan life, St Patrick’s Cathedral hosts many of the Church’s most significant celebrations. From major diocesan gatherings to parish events, it’s a place of welcome, worship, and community.
Discover the story of St Patrick’s Cathedral – its people, history, and sacred spaces. Meet our parish team, explore the organs and bells, or book a tour to experience the Cathedral’s beauty firsthand.
Old age is a sacred season of life – a time rich with wisdom, reflection, and grace. Yet it is also a time when the need for connection, companionship, and community becomes especially profound. In a world that often moves too fast, it is vital that we cherish, honour, and nurture the presence of our senior members, who carry the deep memory and living witness of faith.
Recognising this, St Patrick’s Cathedral launched its Seniors’ Ministry as a pastoral response following the isolation experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our older parishioners, who had been separated from family, friends, and the life of the Church during those long months, voiced a heartfelt desire for renewed connection—a longing to gather again, to share stories, laughter, prayer, and companionship.
Our Seniors’ Ministry meets once a month for lunch or morning tea. Each gathering is a warm and welcoming space where seniors can:
Socialise and reconnect with one another
Participate in spiritual reflections and find nourishment for the soul
Listen to guest speakers who address topics of faith, wellbeing, and community life
Discuss concerns and topics important to seniors
Or simply enjoy one another’s company in a relaxed, friendly environment
Each gathering is an opportunity to affirm the dignity of every individual, to foster friendships, and to build a community where no one feels forgotten or alone. Donations are always welcomed to help cover the cost of meals and support the continuation of this important ministry.
As Pope Francis reminds us:
“The elderly are the reserve of wisdom of our people. They are the memory of a people.”
Our seniors are not only valued members of the parish—they are its living treasure, reminding us of the enduring faith, resilience, and generosity that form the heart of the Church.
