Bishop Bede Heather Funeral Mass

Funerals

Funerals can be booked by appointment through the Parish Presbytery.

While there is no specific Sacrament of Funerals, Catholics may receive Anointing of the Sick – offering spiritual healing, forgiveness, and preparation for eternal life, and Viaticum (Final Holy Communion) – the last Eucharist received before passing.

A Catholic funeral typically includes:

  1. The Vigil (Wake Service) – A time for prayer and reflection.
  2. The Funeral Mass (Requiem Mass) – A liturgy offering prayers for the deceased.
  3. The Committal (Burial or Cremation Rite) – The final farewell at the gravesite or columbarium.

Funeral Masses cannot be held on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday, or Sundays in Advent, Lent, and the Easter Season. A Funeral Mass may be held on Ash Wednesday, but ashes will not be distributed during the service. A Funeral Liturgy Outside of Mass is an alternative on restricted days.
