The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) of St Patrick’s Cathedral plays a vital consultative role in the life of our parish, working together to discern the movement of the Holy Spirit among our community. Inspired by the question “What is God asking of us?”, the PPC prayerfully considers pastoral matters and plans practical responses to support the mission of the Church.
The Council seeks to:
- Listen and respond to the hopes, needs, and concerns of parishioners;
- Support and encourage the work of existing groups within the parish;
- Set both short- and long-term goals for the parish community;
- Evaluate parish life and propose actions that reflect Gospel values; and
- Foster opportunities for deeper faith, community engagement, and living as effective Christians in society.
After a process of prayerful discernment in 2024, the current PPC was formed, with members nominated by parishioners and selected through a panel that included the Dean of the Cathedral. Parishioners can also self-nominate. Members serve a three-year term.
The current PPC members are:
Kerry Giumelli (Chair), Claire Pospischil (Deputy Chair), Martin Graham (Secretary), Anne Stanton, Aileen Bernardo, John Starkey, Helena Roumanos, and Susanna Loto’aniu.
Ex-officio members include the Dean of the Cathedral, the Assistant Parish Priest, the Deacon, and the Cathedral Parish Manager.
The PPC meets once a month on Monday evenings in the Cathedral meeting room. Formation, prayer, and listening are central to the Council’s work, in line with the Diocesan Pastoral Plan for a Synodal Church (2024–2028) and the theme: “Behold, I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).
As we continue this journey, the PPC remains committed to building an inclusive, listening, and mission-driven community at St Patrick’s Cathedral. We warmly invite all parishioners to share their ideas, hopes, and concerns with the PPC as we walk together in faith and service.
