Credo Youth
At St Patrick’s Cathedral, Credo Youth Ministry exists to nurture young people in their faith, build authentic community, and help them grow into the full life Christ calls them to live. Youth groups are vital spaces where young people can encounter Jesus, deepen their understanding of the faith, and form friendships grounded in a shared love for God.
The name “Credo” comes from the Latin word for “I believe”, reflecting the heart of our mission: to form young Catholics who are confident in their faith and courageous in living it out. While St Patrick’s Cathedral has had youth groups in the past, the decision was made in 2013 to rebrand and relaunch as Credo. This was done to create a renewed, intentional space where young people could engage not just socially, but also intellectually and spiritually—truly learning why they believe and how to live that belief.
As Scripture reminds us:
“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12)
Credo Youth Ministry welcomes young people across three groups:
- Junior Credo: for primary school aged children in Years 3–6
- TeenCredo: for secondary school aged youth in Years 7–12
- Credo Young Adults: for ages 18–35

These gatherings offer a mix of prayer, guest speakers, discussion, formation, and fellowship—building a strong foundation of faith that carries into daily life.
Credo has also been instrumental in fundraising efforts to send pilgrims from the Cathedral to World Youth Day, helping young people experience the global Church and deepen their personal relationship with Christ through these powerful encounters.
Everyone is invited to journey in faith, friendship, and service through Credo Youth.

Children’s Liturgy
For over three decades, the Children’s Liturgy Ministry at St Patrick’s Cathedral has nurtured the faith of our youngest parishioners, providing them with a joyful and meaningful experience of the Word of God during Sunday Mass.
Each Sunday at the 9:30am Mass (during school terms), children process in with the priest and altar servers. After receiving a blessing, they are led by our trained volunteers to the Parish Hall, where they participate in a special Liturgy of the Word designed especially for them.
This structured time includes:
- A simplified Introductory Rite
- Proclamation of the Gospel using the Children’s Lectionary
- An age-appropriate reflection or discussion
- Praying the Apostles’ Creed and the Universal Prayer
- A simple craft activity related to the Gospel message
Our program closely follows the Diocese of Parramatta’s Guidelines for Children’s Liturgy, ensuring that our youngest parishioners are formed in the faith in a way that is engaging, respectful, and appropriate to their age and understanding.
The children return to the Cathedral at the Presentation of the Gifts, often bringing forward the offertory, symbolising their full participation in the Eucharistic celebration.

As Jesus said:
“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs.” (Luke 18:16)
The Children’s Liturgy is a vital part of our parish life, made possible by a dedicated and creative team of volunteers. The ministry continues to evolve through the use of visual presentations and increased outreach to families through the Parish newsletter and social media.
All families with young children are warmly invited to participate.
